Govt Seniors Plan Is Disappointing:ConroyFebruary 15, 2012Our local MLA and NDP Seniors Care Critic calls the government's action plan on seniors disappointing and lacking in urgency regarding the need for a Seniors Advocate in BC. Katrine Conroy says her party has called for the advocate since 2007 and she introduced a legislative bill calling for the appointment in November. But she says the government wants more public consultation instead of moving ahead now and that could mean at least a one year delay. Conroy says the government's action plan for seniors skirts around the 175 recommendations made by the BC Ombudsman who clearly has concerns about gaps in service and communication. She says the NDP's vision is to properly fund home care and support as a way of addressing many concerns about seniors care. |
