Rossland To Vote On Trail Aquatic Centre OptionsFebruary 17, 2012Rossland appears set to ask taxpayers if they want to see a remedy to a long-standing recreation dispute with Trail. Rossland residents currently pay double the Trail resident rate to use facilities like the Aquatic Centre. Councillor Kathy Moore admits there are two sides to the debate, but a public plebiscite will gauge the community's opinion on whether a cost-sharing agreement can be reached. She says some people are completely against using taxpayer money to fund an out-of-town facility but others, including regular users want something done about the impasse. Moore says a second question on the plebisicte will address whether Rossland's $20,000 recreation subsidy should be expanded for all user groups, including potentially adults. She notes the subsidy is under-subscribed as is, and Trail would be in a "win-win" situation if more people from Rossland used the grant to go to the Trail to use recreation facilities. |
