Cougar Killed By Authorities In NelsonFebruary 20, 2012A cougar has been put down in Nelson after it attacked and injured a dog in the Fairview area last night. Nelson Police Sgt Howie Gant says they got a call from a resident on the 800 block of Kokanee Aenue. They responded and called the conservation "RAPP" line. They were able to keep an eye on the cat's movements while they awaited the arrival of the conservation officer who used hunting dogs to track the animal. It was then shot. Grant says when a wild animal is so brazen as to attack a family pet in its back yard then the "alarm bells go off " and there is no option but to dispatch it. The cougar is estimated to be 2 years old and weighs around 50 pounds. It is not clear at this stage if the cougar in question is the one that has been spotted in other parts of Nelson the last number of weeks. |
