February 21, 2012

A Nelson couple who had gone missing at the top of Kootenay Pass have been found .

Joe Vingo media liaison with Nelson Search and Rescue says a total of 21 members from various search teams in the Kootenays responded first thing this morning. The couple was found in the Monk Creek drainage area around 8-30am. They were cold but are ininjutred.

Vingo says It appears they lost their way and then ran out of light. They were heading for the Ripple Ridge Cabin in Stagleap Provincial Park on the summit of the pass yesterday.

We reported earlier that a helicopter was to be deployed as part of the search but weather conditions prevented that from happening.

It was one of the snowmobiler crews who made the find under the supervision of an avalanche technician.
