Bright Future For Nelson's Civic Sports ArenaFebruary 22, 2012Nelson's old Civic Arena sports venue is literally facing a much brighter future after extensive efforts the last year to bring the facility up to date. The Nelson Regional Sports Council which operates the city-owned building has installed a number of large windows allowing far more natural light into what was a pretty dark space. And Sports Council Treasurer and well-known hockey personality Bill Mcdonell says the extensive displays of memorabilia have given the site a whole new look. The upgrades don't end there. They have plans to bring in a removeable rubberized floor so sports like roller derby, volleyball and basketball can be played in the summer. McDonell joined executive director Kim Palfenier for a budget presentation to city council this week during which they asked for a $5,000 increase this year which would take their operational grant to $60,000 |
